So You've Got a Succulent. Now What?

A no-fuss guide to keeping your little green mate alive (and thriving)

Let's be real — succulents have a bit of a reputation for being indestructible. And while they're definitely on the low-maintenance end of the plant spectrum, there are still a few things worth knowing. The good news? Once you get the basics down, they pretty much look after themselves.

Light: they love the bright stuff

Succulents are sun worshippers at heart. A bright windowsill — ideally north or east-facing — is their happy place. They don't love sitting in deep shade, but they're also not fans of harsh afternoon sun beating through glass. Think: bright, indirect to gently direct light, and you're golden.

Water: less is more (seriously)

This is the big one. Overwatering is the number one way succulents meet their end. The trick is to water deeply but infrequently — give the soil a good soak, then let it dry out completely before you water again. In summer that might be every week or two; in winter, even less. When in doubt, wait another day.

Soil & drainage: the secret weapon

Good drainage is everything. Succulents hate sitting in soggy soil, so make sure your pot has drainage holes and use a gritty, free-draining mix. Our DIY kits come with the perfect potting mix already sorted — one less thing to think about!

A little love goes a long way

Beyond that, succulents just want a bit of attention every now and then. Remove dead leaves from the base, give them a quarter turn occasionally so they grow evenly, and repot when they start looking cramped. That's genuinely about it.
